Tirur is made sacred by the birth of the Great malayalam poets Vallathol Narayana Menon and Thunchathu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan. Thunchathu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, who is considered to be the father of the Malayalam language literature, lived in the town.
